Topics:Kindergarten, This is the time of year when children are signing up for kindergarten in September.
As a Mom who was adamant about very few sweets in the home,when my children went to school I had very little control on what they ate! Presently,younger children are having cavities, so while the little one is home and you have some control, give them healthy snacks!
Camps and summer programs, if you own or operate a camp or summer program we would like to post your programs. As a Mom it was difficult to find programs when I had to work!

Should a parent hold back their child in kindergarten?
There are professionals in the child care field who believe that it is an advantage to allow children to repeat kindergarten so they will be more mature and bigger in size. I did hold back my first child back in Day Care, she did not attend kindergarten. However, she was able to graduate with her age group in high school. If your child is in a quality child care program, discuss this with their provider or teacher.
When I was a Child Care owner, we always discussed the child's development to discern whether the child was ready for kindergarten. In some cases the school district made a recommendation that the child stay in our program for another year!
Presently, in all my classes and workshops I emphasize the need for the provider or teacher to understand Child development.

Recently there has been an up tick of young children ages 2 and older having cavities which warrants surgery.

What can parents do to hopefully avoid this?
1) Parents should give healthier snacks.
2) Children should drink more water, not sugary drinks.
3) Teach children to brush their teeth after meals,if they are too young, parents or caregivers should assist.
*Idea: If you operate a child care program, add this to your program. Children should brush their teeth after their meals.........
Invite a dentist to visit.........
