Continue.....Expose of a Poll Watcher
OK, it turns out my daughter was able to vote, but the machine at the polling site broke down. As a result she stood in line for 2 1/2 hrs to vote. Her call to me was to complain and find out why a machine could break and no one knew how to fix it. According to my daughter there were at least 50 people waiting to vote. I just want to say kudos to her for waiting, she wanted her vote to count. This would not have happened if she had received her voting card at her home. However, after she moved and changed her address at the DMV, she checked the box that said, do you want to update your voters registration? It was never updated. Now this was my first time as a poll watcher. I was a watcher for my party 4 years ago, but never went and watched, just voted. When I arrived at the poll site, I felt a little uncomfortable. One of my fellow poll watchers was there and they stated, "watch out for the inspector they are not happy we are here." So I proceed to do my job and check to see who voted. Things were going well until a lady came up and said her Mom wanted to vote but her mother never received her card notifying where to vote. For some reason after it was explained to her by me that she could vote by affidavit. They already verified where she lived and which ED district was hers. It is not clear why she never voted, but it was not the highlight of my day! Overall, I must say everyone I met during this poll watching experience were dedicated and really believed in our democracy. I also found out not everyone understands what their responsibility is when they sit at the table and assist people with identifying their names or what if your name is not there, then what? I realized this is serious business and when you look at the race going on in Minnesota you realize how important one vote is!
